How to make your Airbnb feel homely

written on 10/05/2022 2:23pm

It’s always good to create a cosy and homely atmosphere for your guests to walk into when they arrive at their short-term home from home. Luckily, there are many easy ways to bring some personality and character to your home to help your guests settle in and feel comfortable. Here are some simple top tips on how to improve your Airbnb’s overall ambience.

Add plants to bare areas

Plants are on-trend and great to have in the home for so many reasons. Not only do plants have different benefits for your home from cleaning the air to absorbing moisture, but they can also improve people’s moods and brighten an area. They’re also a good way of hiding any unsightly stains or worn floors. If you’re looking for some indoor plants in the area, check into IKEA for some basics at a good value, or Wild Leaf for a wider range of more unusual plants with individual care guides.

Used framed art to fill bare walls

A great way to add personality to your property while also making it look less bare is to hang wall art. No need to splash out on anything too expensive, you can easily spend an afternoon in some of Bristol’s second hand or charity shops and you’ll be bound to find something fun and quirky to bring home.

Add soft furnishings, like cushions, rugs and throws

Nothing says ‘homely’ like a cosy living room to snuggle up in after a long day of travelling or exploring. Add some cushions, throws and even a rug to your space to make it feel just that extra bit more inviting. Again, IKEA has a good selection of soft furnishings, but if you want to support your local businesses then why not pop into My English Home on King’s Road or The Bristol Artisan in Clifton.

Introduce soft lighting

Add a bit of ambience to your home with a variation of lighting that your guests can choose from. Dimmer switches on main lights are a good way to introduce choice, but lamps can just as easily do the same. Some USB or battery fairy lights are always a good pick, being cheap but effective – plus, they’re always a winner when it comes to cute guest Instagram pics!

Add a welcome note/hamper for your guests

Make a lasting impression on your guests and make them want to come back to your home with a personalised welcome note and a complimentary hamper or small gift. This is a great way to add a personal touch, without having to be there. Whether it’s a box of biscuits, jam from a local shop or a bottle of wine, give something that you think represents you and your area.
